it has a special history with Germany

Jordan Bardella won a large victory in the European elections. In one village, it was even unanimous. The latter also has a very special history.

During the European elections, Jordan Bardella largely dominated with 31.37% of the votes cast according to the Ministry of the Interior. The RN has made a breakthrough in many corners of France where it previously struggled, such as Brittany for example. In certain municipalities, RN scores have exploded. In Courcelles-sur-Voire in Aube, the far-right party achieved a score of 86.36% and in Raincourt in Haute-Saône, its list reached 85.19%.

That being said, there is a village where Jordan Bardella was unanimous. By receiving the votes of the six voters from Ornes, he was a success, that is to say 100%. Ornes is a commune located in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region. The village is on the edge of the Verdun national forest. It therefore has a very particular history.

In August 1914, the order was given to evacuate the village but the inhabitants refused. Two children were then killed by shrapnel and some villagers were captured and taken prisoner by the Germans. On February 21, 1916, the Battle of Verdun began. The village then ended up being taken by German troops on February 24, 1916.

A village destroyed forever

Ornes was greatly destroyed under the relentless artillery exchanges. In ruins, it was recaptured by the French on August 23, 1917. Before this terrible period, the village had 700 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and crafts. With these fights, the latter were condemned to exodus and were unable to return.

The commune was, in fact, never rebuilt and was therefore classified as “dead for France”. The damage was too significant, Ornes was then classified in the red zone. It is one of nine French villages devastated during the First World War and which never came back to life. A war memorial in the old cemetery as well as a chapel were nevertheless inaugurated in the village. There also remain the remains of its old church and these last inhabitants, who therefore voted for Jordan Bardella.
