When a person dies, a doctor creates a certificate of death which he then sends to the Swedish Tax Agency which then creates a declaration of death. Through one of the Swedish Tax Agency’s information system, the news is then forwarded to authorities, private companies and banks so that they can see that the person has died.
However, it happens from time to time that a person is declared dead by mistake.

It happens when someone is accidentally declared: “Happens to mix …”
Vjera Catovicbusiness developer at the Swedish Tax Agency, says that the most common reason behind an incorrect declaration of death is that the doctor has mixed patients.
– The most common thing is that doctors happen to mix patients and send a death certificate to the wrong patient, Catovic told News24and continues.
– It also happens that the administrator here at the Swedish Tax Agency happens to throw the numbers in a social security number into an already existing social security number, but it is very rare.
So far, four people have already been declared dead by mistake this year. Last year, 31 people were declared dead by mistake and one of them had actually submitted their own death certificate.

The Swedish Tax Agency: “We do all this promptly”
If you have been declared deadly, it is important that you or the doctor who has submitted the death certificate calls to the Swedish Tax Agency and corrects. Thereafter, it is an officer at the authority who makes an investigation and goes out with information that the person in question has not died.
– In the same information system we may send out that a person has died, we also send out if the death declaration is incorrect. We also email the municipality and region where the person lives and contacts relevant authorities, explains Catovic, and adds:
– We do all this promptly. Both declaration of death and the correction of death declaration are carried out as quickly as possible.
