The coronavirus pandemic has affected a large part of our lives. At the same time, problems began to be experienced in the production lines. While supply chain restrictions such as the chip crisis in automobile production emerged, smartphone manufacturers were also affected by these restrictions in the supply chain. One of these companies was undoubtedly Apple. A news report claimed that Apple made a historic decision in iPhone production.
iPHONE HAS TO STOP PRODUCTION
According to a report from Nikkei, supply chain restrictions forced Apple to cease production of the iPhone lineup. Judging by the report, multiple sources said the iPhone and iPad assembly line was halted for several days for the first time in more than a decade due to supply chain restrictions and power usage restrictions in China.
NOT OVER WORK, THEY GOT PERMISSION
Normally, Apple had to work overtime this week to meet the holiday shopping season and global demand, according to the report. But it didn’t work out as expected, and workers took leave, not overtime.
A supply chain manager said:
“THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE”
“Due to limited components and chips, it was pointless to work overtime during the holidays and pay extra wages to frontline workers…This has never happened before. In the past, China’s golden holiday was the busiest time of all assemblers to prepare for production.”
It was previously said that Apple has cut its iPhone production estimates for this year from 90 million to 80 million due to the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage that has hit many sectors from automobiles to technology.
