It flopped in the cinema but now there is really

The merciless science fiction cop Judge Dredd was first invented as a comic book character. In 1995 there was a film adaptation with Sylvester Stallone, which today is more of a weird trash. The Dredd film adaptation from 2012 with The Boys star Karl Urban, which is shown on NITRO on Wednesday evening, is much more serious and, above all, more rousing. Even if the Genre mix of sci-fi dystopia and action hit sank at the box office, a late sequel was recently brought into play.

Sci-fi hits on TV: That’s what Dredd is all about

The plot of the film by director Pete Travis takes place in the futuristic city Megacity One, where the law lies in the hands of the so-called judges. They are about particularly tough police members. In Dredd, the veteran Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) has to take care of the inexperienced but telekinetically gifted recruit Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby). Together they infiltrate a high-rise building with drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) lurking at the top.

Sci-Fi flop Dredd is set to continue after all

As we reported in 2022, a Dredd sequel starring Urban is said to be in development again. There has been no official update since then. The sci-fi blockbuster grossed $50 million at the global box office, according to Box Office Mojo at the time just $41 million again and has been considered a mega-flop ever since.
