Prof. made statements about the surgical method, which was published in the international peer-reviewed scientific medical journal BMC Surgery about a month ago and entered the literature under his surname. Dr. Fındık explained that they have been using this technique in locally advanced lung cancer surgeries since 2018.
Stating that locally advanced lung cancers can sometimes be found attached to the pericardium, Fındık said, “In such cases, we need to remove the tumor together with the pericardium. At this point, the widely used ‘artificial prosthesis’ is sewn to the pericardium to prevent the heart tissue from herniating outward. In general, surgeries are shaped like this.” shared his knowledge.
REDUCES THE RISK OF INFECTION AND ARRHYTHMIA
Prof. Dr. Fındık stated that artificial prosthesis may cause some problems in patients later and continued his words as follows:
“There are various disadvantages of the artificial prosthesis sewn to the pericardium. Placing a foreign tissue on the pericardium may cause problems such as the risk of infection, re-operation, and arrhythmia. For this reason, we started our studies on what method could be applied instead of the artificial prosthesis and developed a new technique. This technique, which we have been successfully applying since 2018, was published in one of Europe’s respected scientific journals.
We do not use artificial prosthesis in the method we call ‘Hazelnut technique’, which is also included in the literature with this name. Instead, we join the pericardium together with a different suturing technique. In this way, the risk of infection, arrhythmia and re-operation is reduced in patients. “They have a more comfortable and trouble-free process after the surgery.”
“WE RECEIVED POSITIVE FEEDBACK”
Prof. Dr. Göktürk Fındık said that they received positive feedback from patients who underwent surgery with this method and that the results of the surgery were also included in the international article.
Pointing out that he has spent 25 years in his profession and emphasizing that he is honored to introduce the method to the world literature, Fındık said, “I am proud and happy to have developed this method, which we call ‘Pericardial rug weave’, which has also entered the literature with the name ‘Fındık technique’. I hope that all our patients will have the opportunity to heal and benefit.” .” made his assessment. (AA)
