Pirate fans have been waiting for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 for years. The franchise’s undiscovered treasures have also been tempting in the past: There is an approximately ten-minute prequel called Pirates of the Caribbean: Tales of the Code: Wedlocked. It comes from sci-fi director James Ward Byrkit (Coherence).

Sci-Fi maker is filming Pirates of the Caribbean prequel: What story does the prequel tell?

Franchise fans first met Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in 2003 in a small boat that was in acute danger of sinking due to its holes. Wedlocked tells the background of the situation. The legendary pirate promised marriage to two young women, only to end up duping them and having them sold off at auction (!). However, Depp does not appear in the film.

As our colleagues at Espinof quote from Byrkit’s interview with Pirates of the Caribbean Wiki, the curious film was made during the production of Pirates of the Caribbean – Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End. Byrkit worked in the art department there and wrapped up the prequel shoot in three days using leftover sets from the parent films.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Tales of the Code: Wedlocked was primarily distributed as an extra on the DVDs and Blu-rays of the first Pirates of the Caribbean films. Nevertheless, far too few franchise fans still know him.
