The animated side of the Star Trek franchise has been in the shadows for decades, although the popularity of Lower Decks and crossover episodes with live-action series are slowly changing that. A new mini Miniseries now commemorates the science fiction franchise’s rich animated heritage. Since September, episodes of Star Trek: Very Short Treks have been released for free. The series is now fully available.

This is what awaits you in Very Short Treks

Star Trek: Very Short Treks is an anthology series intended to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the animated Star Trek story. In 1973 the first episode of the animated series The Enterprise was released.

The mini-episodes are stylistically based on the 70s model, they are each only a few minutes long and feature a mixture of well-known speakers from the franchise (see below) and new voices. The stories are not part of the canon of the Star Trek seriesbut with their sometimes absurd humor they make a little fun of the clichés of the long-running sci-fi flagship.

Star Trek fans might immediately notice one name in the list: Bruce Horak aka Hemmer. The ship’s engineer from the first season of Strange New Worlds is no longer part of the crew for tragic reasons. In the mini-episodes there is a reunion with the fan favorite. Watch the 5 episodes of Star Trek: very Short Treks here
