With the start of seasonal rains, mushrooms began to show themselves in nature. Mushrooms that are collected unconsciously in the natural environment and are not known to be poisonous cause irreparable, fatal health problems if consumed. Mushrooms, which are shown as an alternative to meat with their rich protein content, grow widely and are in demand from citizens in these days when there is abundant rain. Although natural mushrooms are more delicious than cultivated mushrooms, they carry the risk of poisoning. In this period when there are many types of mushrooms, it can sometimes be confused which mushroom is poisonous and which is non-poisonous. Mushrooms consumed unconsciously cause poisoning and fatal health problems. Experts underline that mushrooms collected in nature should never be consumed, even if the variety is known.
“CAUSES LIVER FAILURE”
Stating that unconscious consumption of mushrooms growing in nature can lead to poisoning that may result in death, Yozgat Bozok University Faculty of Medicine faculty member Dr. Faculty Member Tolga Aydın said, “We see that there is an increase in mushroom poisoning cases in our country with the increase in rain in the autumn and spring months, and this year the poisoning cases in our province have increased compared to last year. We know that there are poisonous mushrooms among the mushrooms that grow naturally in Turkey. We see serious cases that may even lead to death after consuming these poisonous mushrooms. There are also cases of liver failure and cases requiring urgent liver transplantation. “These days, applications to our emergency services due to mushroom poisoning have increased.” said.
“SYMPTOMS OF POISONING SHOW THEMSELVES WITHIN 2 TO 6 HOURS”
Stating that the symptoms of mushroom poisoning appear within 2 to 6 hours, Aydın said, “Mushroom poisoning begins with feeling bad, cold sweats, nausea and abdominal pain, and there may be symptoms of poisoning due to reasons such as confusion, fainting and drowsiness. Therefore, when such problems occur, if we have eaten mushrooms beforehand, we should contact emergency services. In order to avoid these cases and poisoning events, let’s not unconsciously eat mushrooms collected and consumed from nature. “I think it would be beneficial to focus more on cultivated mushrooms.” he said.
“WE NEED TO BE MORE CAUTIOUS”
Muzaffer Bayat, one of the citizens, said that he does not consume mushrooms collected in nature unconsciously and said, “Since we do not know whether every mushroom is poisonous or not, the possibility of poisoning is higher, so we need to be more careful and cautious when eating them. “We need to choose more non-poisonous mushrooms,” he said.
“WE SHOULD NOT EAT EVERY MUSHROOM WE FIND IN NATURE”
Halit Bozkurt said, “We should not eat every mushroom we find in nature. Fungus is very dangerous for human life. It also has benefits. It also has harm. People can die from poisonous mushrooms and have a difficult time with their health. We need to consume every mushroom we find. “For our health, we should not eat every mushroom,” he said. (UAV)
