Dunkirk doesn’t need many words: visually powerful war film captivates from start to finish
What can’t be missing from a Christopher Nolan film is Oscar winner Cillian Murphy and composer Hans Zimmer. The latter delivers in the 106-minute work, almost an hour of the best film musicwhich carries the plot and characters. That’s why it fits so well because Dunkirk is a film with little dialogue and convinces with images instead of words. And the pictures are really bombastic.
Due to its unusual narrative form, Dunkirk does not focus on individual fates, but rather reports on the ground troops, sea rescue and air operations from different perspectives. The special thing about it is that although the stories run parallel, the length of the time narrated varies greatly. While the air mission lasts an hour, the sea rescue takes place for a day and the ground rescue lasts a whole week.
Although there is no clear main character, it is enough to make us sympathize with the soldiers in their desperate situation and to bring us closer to the historical event.
