During Monday, high temperatures were measured throughout Sweden – and the high summer heat refuses to let go.
Tomorrow it could be very warm for the time of year. Around Stockholm, Västerås and Eskilstuna it can be up to 30 degrees.
– It is extremely hot air that has been above us for a very long time. It could be the hottest day of the year so far, says TV4’s meteorologist Madeleine Westin.
Why has it been so hot?
– It is because this high pressure with its central parts over parts of Finland and Russia has taken hold and brought in extremely warm air over large parts of the country. In the border zone to significantly cooler air, there is a cold front over the western parts of the country which today has brought downpour-like rain with thunder.
The meteorologist: Worrying weather conditions
It has also been hot in northern Sweden recently – something that is not quite usual.
– It occurs, but usually not for such a long time. It has also brought several warnings about floods and high flows due to the rapid snowmelt, says Madeleine Westin.
With the high temperatures, there are a few things you should watch out for.
– There are warnings out about grass fires in the north and forest fires in the south. It is a worrying weather situation, says Madeleine Westin.
