Presidential Communications Directorate Digital Media Coordinator Aslan Değirmenci warned citizens on social media. He stated that the ‘Why Are You Looking At My Profile’ title is a trap for identity thieves and that the information is shared with third parties.
Değirmenci stated the following:
“The hashtag ‘Why Are You Looking At My Profile’, which is currently on the list, is a trap for identity thieves and an investigation has been initiated against them.
Users who allow certain applications on their social media accounts unknowingly share their private information and passwords with third parties, risking data security.
By approving the applications, you “unknowingly” allow strangers to access your friends list on social media, access public profile information, share or like on behalf of the user, and change password information.
