Istat birth rate still decreasing 379 thousand births in 2023

(Finance) – More than a year after the presentation of the Italian candidacy in the United Nations Statistical Commission Italy returns to being a member of the Commission. It was in 2010 and then with another mandate until 2017. This was announced by theNational Institute of Statistics. The role of the Statistical Commission, made up of representatives of 24 countries, – explains Istat in a note – has grown over the years as the body responsible for managing the governance of statistics and data, and in the development and updating of international statistical standards and norms , and the development and implementation of tools and methodologies for data comparability.
At a particularly relevant moment for statistics, the role of member in the main decision-making body of the global statistical system for the three-year period 2025-2028 represents for Istat “the opportunity to ensure a Italy’s contribution to new challenges, starting from the use of new data sources, the measurement of society’s progress and the process of modernizing statistics in line with the fundamental principles of official statistics in which Istat can boast well-recognized experience in the various thematic sectors, a partnership in international cooperation and active participation in the international context of official statistics”.

“Being a member of the Commission again guarantees Italy a greater strategic weight on relevant areas, with an impact not only at a national but also at a European level, allowing Italy – concludes Istat – to play an active role with respect to the common position of the European statistical system on the various topics addressed in the Statistical Commission at the United Nations “.
