Istat: family confidence collapses, business rises

Inflation Istat confirms February prices at the top since 1995

(Finance) – In June the index of business confidence increases for the second consecutive month (from 111 to 113.6) recording the highest value since December 2021. The improvement – explains Istat – is extended to all the economic sectors investigated, albeit with different intensities: market services recorded the most marked increase in the index, determined above all by the transport and storage sector. The statistical institute notes, however, that theconsumer confidence index shows a negative evolution (from 102.7 to 98.3), reaching a minimum from November 2020 and reports a widespread worsening of all the variables that enter into the calculation of the indicator with the exception of those referring to savings (opportunity to save in the current phase and possibility to save in the future).

All components of the consumer confidence index are declining. In particular, the economic climate and the current climate recorded the most marked decreases, falling, respectively, from 103.6 to 93.9 and from 104.6 to 97.9; the personal climate decreased from 102.4 to 99.8 and the future climate passed from 99.8 to 98.8.

With reference to businesses, confidence is improving in all the sectors surveyed; in industry the increase in the index is more contained (in manufacturing and construction the index rises, respectively, from 109.4 to 110 and from 158.7 to 159.7) than in services (in market the index increases from 103.8 to 109.1 and in the retail trade it increases from 105.8 to 107.2).

As for the components of the confidence indices, in the manufacture both opinions on orders and expectations on production improved; inventories are deemed to be accumulating compared to last month. In the construction sector, the improvement in assessments on orders is combined with a deterioration in employment expectations.

With reference to the market services, all the variables that make up the indicator recorded a positive evolution characterized by a marked increase in the balances. Finally, in the Retail the positive dynamics of judgments on sales is associated with a decline in inventories and a worsening of expectations on the volume of future sales.
