Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has warned that rising tensions with Hezbollah could escalate into war following the killing of one of its top commanders in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
According to the statement made by the Ministry of Defense, Gallant made evaluations on the agenda of the exercise organized by the Israeli army.
Referring to the tensions on the Lebanese border, Gallant claimed that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah “could drag Lebanon into paying a very heavy price.”
“IT’S NOT THEORETICAL, IT’S REAL”
Gallant pointed to the tensions with Hezbollah, saying, “This could turn into a war. It’s not theoretical, it’s real.”
“THEY CANNOT EVEN IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAPPEN”
Threatening Hezbollah by giving the example of the situation in the Gaza Strip, which was turned into ruins by the Israeli army, Gallant said, “They cannot even imagine what could happen. If they take a photo of Gaza, they will understand (what could happen).”
STATEMENT FROM HIZBULLAH
Hezbollah leader Nasrallah had stated, “Our response will be strong and effective.”
ASSASSINATION TENSION HAD RISEN
On July 30, the Israeli army killed Fuad Shukur, a senior Hezbollah commander, in an airstrike in Beirut.
As tensions rose in the region following this attack, it is reported that Hezbollah is preparing to retaliate for the assassination of Shukur.
