Israel’s labor court has ordered the end of the general strike that took place in the country on Monday.
The Histadrut, the country’s largest trade union, called a strike earlier to put pressure on the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to agree to a cease-fire agreement in Gaza. The actions followed news of the deaths of six young hostages that sparked massive protests across the country.
A rare general strike in Israel had an effect on Monday. Disturbances were seen, for example, at Ben Gurion Airport, which is Israel’s largest international airport.
However, the country’s labor court sided with the government on Monday, after finding that the general strike had political motives. The strike was scheduled to end at 2:30 p.m. The Histadrut had previously planned to continue the strike until the evening.
The leader of the Histadrut trade union has announced after the court’s decision that the employees have now been ordered to return to work.
However, the hostages’ families say they still intend to continue the protests on Monday.
