Israeli settler violence against Palestinians breaks records in 2024

With 1,400 incidents recorded, 2024 is the year with the highest number of cases of violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank or East Jerusalem. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs deplores this explosion of violence in a report published Thursday January 2.

On average, four incidents per day took place in 2024, deplores in his report the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha). This violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinians have resulted in the death and injury of many Palestinians, including children, as well as damage to their property, or both.

Ocha has been documenting these incidents for 20 years. According to the report presented by the organization, settlers killed at least seven Palestinians during the first half of the past year. But since the start of the war, at least 800 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army in the West Bank, and around 6,500 have been injured, according to this report. Several thousand residents of the Palestinian territory have also been forced to abandon their homes due to attacks or land seizures.

Israel did not react to this report, the Jewish state generally accusing UN agencies of being obsessed with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Last October, the Israeli Parliament adopted a law which prohibits the activities of Unrwa on its soil. This forces the administrations to cut all contact with this aid agency for Palestinian refugees.
