Israeli intelligence chief resigns

The head of Israel’s intelligence department, Aharon Haliva, is resigning, the Israeli military, the IDF, has announced.
Haliva writes that security work failed during the Hamas attack on October 7, work he was responsible for.
– At the beginning of the war I expressed my desire to take responsibility and end my service, now more than six months later and at the same time as the investigations begin, I want to end my service, writes Aharon Haliva.

The IDF writes that he is resigning from his post as he was responsible for security in connection with the Hamas attack on October 7.

In a statement, Aharon Haliva writes that the intelligence department under his command did not live up to its responsibilities during the attack.

“I carry the black day with me ever since,” writes Haliva.

Haliva has served in the IDF for 38 years and will retire as soon as a replacement is appointed.

“Until the end of my service, I will do everything to defeat Hamas,” writes Haliva.
