Yahav Winner had recently finished filming his short film “The boy” when he was killed by militant Islamists in his home, while his wife and newborn daughter were able to seek shelter. He was 37 years old.
In a statement to the American newspaper Deadline says Winner’s widow, Shaylee Atary, that her husband sacrificed himself for their survival.
“He didn’t run away, he tried to save us,” she writes to the newspaper.
The widow is to complete a feature film
“The boy”, now premiering in Tel Aviv, is about a young man who lives near Gaza. And who struggles with being exposed to robot attacks but also with their empathy for those who live on the other side of the fence.
Shaylee Atary was present at the documentary where Winner was celebrated. She will now complete a joint feature film project, which the couple had, on her own.
The film will set you in the Kfar Aza kibbutz, where the massacre took place.
