  • Israeli air raid on southern Beirut

    Israel has carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, Lebanon’s state news agency said shortly after midnight.

    Before the attack, the Israeli military (IDF) ordered residents in the vicinity of two designated buildings in two different neighborhoods to evacuate immediately.

    “You are close to Hezbollah installations and interests against which the IDF will operate in the near future,” an IDF spokesperson wrote on X late Saturday night.

    Donald Trump has previously warned that the entire United States could become like Detroit if rival Kamala Harris wins the presidential election.

    – I think Detroit and some of our areas make us a developing nation, Trump said at a campaign rally in the Detroit suburb of Novi on Saturday.

    He said many want him to say Detroit is good, but he believes the city needs help. He promised to restore Detroit’s pioneering auto industry through tariffs on foreign cars.

    Former US first lady Michelle Obama entered the US election battle on Saturday night.

    At a campaign rally in Michigan with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, she said she struggles to understand how public opinion can still be so evenly matched.

    – I lie awake at night wondering: “What in the world is going on”.

    She said women’s reproductive rights are at risk if Republican Donald Trump wins.

    – I ask you all from the bottom of my heart to take our lives seriously.

    The campaign rally was Michelle Obama’s first before the Nov. 5 election.

  • Swedish planes in action against Russian military aircraft

    During Saturday, Swedish warplanes carried out an operation against a Russian military aircraft over the Baltic Sea.

    This is announced by the Swedish Air Force on Xsaying it was an “identification mission”.

    The mission took place at the request and in cooperation with NATO.

    “Sweden is well integrated into NATO, which was shown when passage of Danish airspace over Bornholm was used to quickly get to the mission,” writes the air force.

    Israeli President Isaac Herzog hails the US as a “true ally” of Israel, in a statement following the country’s attack on Iran.

    “I especially want to thank our good friend the United States for being a true ally, and for the open and covert cooperation,” the president said in a statement.

    During the night of Saturday, Israel attacked military targets in Iran, in response to ballistic missiles that Iran fired at Israel earlier in October.

    It is the first time that Israel’s military has openly attacked Iran.

    There is currently a fire in a barn at Hölö, south of Stockholm.

    – There is some type of outbuilding on a farm that is on fire. There are no animals in there, says Robert Sennerdal at the Stockholm Police.

    Several units from the rescue service must be on site.

    – It’s probably burning quite badly, but it’s about property damage, says Sennerdal.

    The emergency services call LT that the building is completely engulfed in flames and cannot be saved.

    Danish police are currently carrying out a major operation in Tårnby, near Kastrup, outside Copenhagen.

    The medical technology company Baxter, the largest supplier of drops, has been forced to close a factory in the United States after Hurricane Helene.

    This could lead to a global shortage of fluids for drips, warns the Swedish Medicines Agency.

    – These are completely necessary products. We therefore feel that we have to engage in dialogue with the parties concerned and make sure to keep the picture of supply and demand up to date, says Veronica Arthurson, Director of the Medical Products Agency.

    The information that the Swedish Medicines Agency has received is that the problems will be long-lasting even if production is resumed.

    – In the worst case, we don’t get enough of these products to cover demand. Healthcare may need to ration access and prioritize patient groups.

    The police have received an alarm that two men are injured at Möllevångstorget in Malmö.

    The men must have stab or cut injuries, the police write on their website.

    – There are two men in their 20s, they were taken away by ambulance. They were awake and talkative, Evelina Olsson, police spokesperson.

    Police are on site and have blocked off and are waiting for technicians.

    – We are working on information gathering now, talking to witnesses and going through cameras in the area.

    The police currently have no idea what may be behind the crime.

    – The crime classification is attempted murder, says Evelina Olsson, police spokesperson.

    A Russian Mi-2 helicopter has crashed in a forest in the region of Russia, writes the state news agency Ria Novosti.

    Three people have died, according to Russian authorities.

    Another person must have been on board. A rescue operation is underway at the scene.

    The ruling party in Georgia, which has been accused of being close to Russia, looks set to lose its majority to the opposition.

    The US urges Iran not to respond to Israel’s airstrikes, and the EU wants the parties to show restraint.

    Saudi Arabia condemns the attack and says an escalation of the conflict threatens the security of the entire region.

    The EU calls on “all parties” to show the greatest possible restraint to avoid an “uncontrollable escalation” in the Middle East after Israel carried out airstrikes in Iran during the night of Saturday.

    “The dangerous cycle of attacks and reprisals risks leading to a further expansion of the regional conflict,” the EU said in a statement.

    British Prime Minister Keir Starmer insists that Israel “has the right to defend itself against Iranian aggression”:

    – And I want to be equally clear that we must avoid further regional escalation and call on all sides to show restraint, he says at a press conference, the BBC reports.

    The US also urges Iran to refrain from retaliation, according to the public service company.
