The Hes family lived in Paulus Potterstraat during the Second World War. Bernard Hes, Ada’s grandfather, worked as a merchant. He was married to Selma. They had two daughters, Sonja and Sophie. One evening in 1942 there was a knock on the door. “This door is behind me,” Ada says, pointing to the door. The Hes family turned out to be betrayed. Bernard Hes was taken away, the rest of the family went into hiding.
