Israel will take revenge – may attack targets in Iran

Israel will retaliate against Iran’s massive missile attack that began last night.
Benny Gantz, a member of Israel’s war cabinet, says so in a statement.

For the first time, Israel is hinting that it will retaliate against last night’s massive attack in which hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles were fired at Israel from Iran and their proxy groups in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

A large majority of everything fired was shot down by Israel with the help of the US, UK, France and Jordan. About ten people were injured and a girl is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The World holds its breath

Benny Gantz, a member of the war cabinet and Israel’s commander-in-chief between 2011 and 2015, said in a statement that Israel will build a regional coalition and ensure that Iran pays the price for the attack, at a time that favors Israel.

The announcement comes at the same time as the world holds its breath for possible responses to the night’s attack. The conflict risks degenerating into a major regional war.

Can attack in Iran

Gantz did not specify what a counterattack might look like, but former Pentagon official Mick Mulroy said BBC that it could become extensive – despite the US’s calls not to escalate the conflict. According to him, it is likely that Israel will strike on Iranian soil, rather than against one of its proxy groups.

– It could become so serious that they attack Iran’s nuclear weapons facilities or attack their defense industry, he says.

The Iranian attack, in turn, is justified from Tehran by the fact that Israel attacked the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus, almost two weeks ago.

Israel’s war cabinet is now sitting in a meeting that began at 2 p.m. Swedish time.
