The Israeli counterattack after Iran’s robotic strike is unlikely to target oil production or Iran’s nuclear program.

That was the message Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered when he spoke to US President Joe Biden last Wednesday, two sources familiar with the matter told The Washington Post. Instead, Netanyahu is said to have said that strikes against military targets are being planned.

Israel has promised a “bloody” response to the 200 robots that Tehran fired at the country on October 1. According to analysts, an attack on Iranian oil facilities would send global energy prices soaring, while an attack on the nuclear program could lead to a serious escalation that risks drawing the United States into a more direct military role.

According to the sources, Netanyahu’s announcement should have caused Washington to breathe a sigh of relief.
