Israel says it has killed the leader of the military wing of the Hamas terrorist organization in an airstrike of Muhammad Deif earlier in July.
Israel says the matter is based on a confirmed “intelligence assessment”.
Deif led the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, a military force of Hamas.
According to the Israeli Armed Forces, the attack took place on July 13. The attack on the Khan Yunis area was carried out with fighter jets.
Deif is believed to be one of the planners of the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas. Deif was one of the most prominent leaders of Hamas and worked in the movement for more than 30 years. In particular, Deif developed Hamas’ Gazan tunnel system and the organization’s bombings.
Israel’s story follows yesterday’s news about the leader of Hamas’s political wing to Ismail Haniyeh of the assassination in Tehran.
Like Haniyeh, Deif, who was killed in an airstrike, was part of the “deck of cards” that Israel handed out to its soldiers at the beginning of the Gaza war; to a list of 52 key Hamas members targeted by Israel.
With the death of Deif, a large part of Hamas’s leadership during the October attack has been killed by Israel.
