The US lifted sanctions against Israeli settlers.
The Israeli army has started an operation in the West Bank city of Jenin. At least six Palestinians have been killed and 35 wounded in the shooting.
Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu according to which it is a “large-scale and significant military operation”.
The operation is directed against the Palestinian organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which are believed to be operating in Jenin and the refugee camp next to it. Israel has often carried out attacks on these targets in the past.
Israel occupied the West Bank in 1967 and has since established settlements there. Most countries consider settlements to be illegal.
The United States set Joe Biden during his presidency, sanctions against those settlers who were deemed to have committed violence against the Palestinians. The new president Donald Trump removed the sanctions immediately after coming to power.
Minister responsible for Israel’s West Bank operations, extremist Bezalel Smotrich has thanked Trump for his “unwavering support for Israel”.
