Israel stops French politicians
The Israeli government has decided to withdraw the visas for 27 French politicians who would have visited Israel and the Palestinian areas starting next week.
The politicians, among them representatives of the French Communist Party and the ecologists, condemn in a statement the action that they refer to as “collective punishment”.
The Israeli Ministry of the Interior states that it has made its decision in accordance with a law that gives the authorities the right to port persons who are considered to act in violation of Israel’s interests.
In early April, Israel prohibited two British MPs from Labor from entering the country. The same fate met two EU parliamentarians from Ireland, who were denied entry in February.
The latest porting also occurs shortly after President Emmanuel Macron announced that France may recognize Palestine, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned as “a great reward for terrorism”.
