The UN Security Council will hold a crisis meeting on Sunday regarding Iran’s attack on Israel, according to Malta, the country that chairs it.

The meeting is being held at Israel’s request and is expected to begin at 6 p.m. Swedish time.

“The Iranian attack is a serious threat to global peace and security and I expect the Council to use all means to take concrete measures against Iran,” Israel’s UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan said in a statement on X.

Iran’s UN envoy writes in a statement that the attack against military targets in Israel is a legitimate response after Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus last week.

“Unfortunately, the UN Security Council has failed in its duty to maintain international peace and security, allowing the Israeli regime to cross red lines and violate the basic principles of international law,” Iran’s UN envoy wrote in a statement. .
