The journalists were filming the border area between Lebanon and Israel when they were suddenly fired upon. One reporter was killed and six were injured.

Investigations indicate that Israel fired the shells. An Israeli review has been launched.

– It is important and right that it (the shelling) be fully and thoroughly investigated. I understand that Israel has initiated such an investigation, it is urgent to see what it comes to, said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday.

It was in mid-October that the seven journalists – sent by Reuters, Al Jazeera and AFP to cover the exchange of fire between Israel and the Hezbollah militia – came under fire. A Reuters journalist was killed. An AFP photographer was seriously injured. She was forced to amputate that leg and is still being treated in hospital.

The group of journalists was on Lebanese soil, near the village of Alma al-Chaab.

Both Reuters and AFP have made their own reports on the incident, the latter in collaboration with the organization Airwars, which investigates attacks on civilians in war. The conclusion is that the shells used came from Israeli tanks and were likely fired from the Israeli village of Jordeikh on the other side of the border.

Human rights groups have argued that the attack should be investigated as a war crime.
