On Monday morning, the Israeli military began the evacuation of civilians from the eastern parts of Rafah to a “humanitarian zone,” several Israeli media reported, among them Haaretz.
Israel also announced that the border crossing at Kerem Shalom remains closed following a Hamas rocket attack on the area that killed three Israeli soldiers, according to the newspaper.
The country’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, stated on Sunday that an operation is expected in Rafah shortly. This is at the same time as there are ongoing negotiations on a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
– We see worrying signals that Hamas actually has no intention of following any agreements with us. This means that operations in Rafah, and the entire Gaza Strip, are imminent, he said, according to Haaretz.
Over a million Palestinians are said to be in the city.
