Israel has released the head of Gaza’s largest hospital Mohammed Abu Salmiyanwho had been imprisoned for more than seven months, Israeli and Gaza sources said, according to the AFP news agency.
Al-Shifa hospital director and doctor Abu Salmiya was among dozens of freed Palestinian prisoners who returned to the besieged area for treatment on Monday.
Israel’s Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir and a medical source in the Gaza Strip confirmed his release on social media.
Israel captured Abu Salmiya in November.
Israel has repeatedly accused the extremist organization Hamas of conducting military operations from hospitals and other medical centers. Hamas has denied the allegations.
