Israel approves temporary ceasefire with Hamas

The agreement means that Hamas must release all women and children from the hostages, according to a high-ranking White House source to SVT’s correspondent Fouad Youcefi.

Hamas has presented evidence in negotiations that it has 50 women and children as hostages, but that there may be more – which the group has not been able to locate or prove.

Israel’s government says the pause will be extended by one day for every 10 hostages released. As soon as all parties approve the agreement, a temporary ceasefire can take place within 24 hours, the source said.

The agreement between Hamas and Israel was approved by Israel after a long meeting on the night of Wednesday Swedish time. It is unclear whether Hamas also approved the agreement.
