Israeli government approves ceasefire agreement and releases hostages in Gaza.
“When the security cabinet and the government approve the agreement, the first hostages are expected to be released on Sunday,” the Prime Minister’s office wrote earlier on Friday, after the security cabinet gave its go-ahead to the agreement.
The first to be released are said to be three women. During the next six weeks, a further 30 people held captive in Gaza will then be released. In exchange, hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned in Israel are to be released.
During the 42-day ceasefire, which according to the plan is to start at 12.15 on Sunday, negotiations on the two next phases of the agreement are to be conducted. The goal is to reach a permanent end to the war.
