Israel and Hezbollah have drifted to the brink of war

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was ready for a “very intensive operation” in Lebanon.

Months of devastating attacks between Israel and Lebanon have made the situation on the border between the two countries explosive.

According to the AFP news agency, 455 Lebanese have been killed in Israel’s attacks since October. The Israeli army says 18 of its soldiers and ten civilians died in the attacks from Lebanon.

In Lebanon, the Iran-backed Hezbollah organization has been responsible for the attacks. The European Union has designated Hezbollah’s military wing as a terrorist organization.

In recent days, rockets fired by Hezbollah have ignited wild fires in northern Israel.

Netanyahu ready for real action

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu visited the border area in the small town of Kiryat Shmona on Wednesday. The Prime Minister’s comments left no room for interpretation regarding Israel’s future intentions.

– We are prepared to act with force in the north. One way or another, we will restore security to the north.

Netanyahu has previously used harsh language when talking about Hezbollah.

In December, he warned that Israel would turn the capital Beirut into “the new Gaza” if Hezbollah tried to go to full-scale war.

Yesterday, the commander of the Israel Defense Forces Herzi Halevi said the troops were ready to attack the north. According to Halev, we are now approaching the moment of decision.
