No information on the real identity of the new leader of the jihadist group has been revealed according to specialists. It is logically an Iraqi. Abu Ibrahim al-Hachimi al-Qourachi is therefore the third self-proclaimed “caliph” of this radical jihadist organization, just as exposed as his two predecessors, both killed during American operations in Syria.
The Islamic State group had proclaimed its “caliphate” in 2014 over a vast territory including regions of Iraq and Syria. The group was ousted from its last stronghold in 2019, but it remains active in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa.
