Isabelle had her uterus removed

She was told that her uterus needed to be surgically removed. After two years of waiting and anxiety, it was surgically removed. Only to find out in retrospect that it might not have been necessary.

An investigation by Dagens Nyheter has shown that a gynecologist at Skaraborg hospital is said to have operated on the uterus of young women, using criticized theories. One of those who had her uterus removed is Isabelle Ottersten, who in Efter fem says that after she was told that her uterus needed to be removed, she had to wait for almost two years because of waiting times.

– I tried to understand what was going to happen and why, says Isabelle Ottersten in Efter fem and continues:

– I mourned the children I would never have.

Basic tests would show connective tissue disease

From the gynecologist, Isabelle did not receive much information about why the uterus needed to be operated on, but only that it needed to be operated on.

– I didn’t understand much, I was shocked, says Isabelle.

The criticized theories are based on simpler tests where you would bend your thumb towards your wrist, touch your hands to the floor and spin your ankles. These tests would therefore show if you had a connective tissue disease.

– The whole situation was very special, says Isabelle.

Couldn’t watch movies with small children

Skaraborg’s hospital has said after Dagens Nyheter’s review that they will conduct an investigation and an email to Efter fem, the hospital responds as follows:

“Skaraborg Hospital takes the women’s experiences very seriously and that is also why we have initiated an investigation. That work is ongoing and will take a long time before it is completed and we do not want to preempt the results of this investigation”

The incident made Isabelle Ottersten feel very bad for a long time afterwards. She says that she couldn’t watch movies or series with small children in them, she didn’t talk to anyone about what happened and mourned for a very long time.

– It was like the whole world fell apart, I’ve been feeling really bad, says Isabelle.
