The national team captain led Sweden to a historic WC.
But Giulio Cesare Bregoli is not coming to the championship – he chooses to take over the German national team.
– I am very disappointed that it turned out the way it did, says star Isabelle Haak to Radiosporten.
The volleyball summer has been brilliant. First, Sweden’s women’s national team won the Golden League and then the national team qualified for the World Cup playoffs for the first time.
The person behind the success? Union captain Giulio Cesare Bregoli.
But now the Italian is finished with Sweden. The 50-year-old will instead take over Germany’s national team, which Radiosporten was the first to report.
– We had a good collaboration, I liked his system and he is a really good coach. It is a shame that we lose him, says Haak.

Bregoli took over the national team at the beginning of the year, had a contract written for 1+2 years but chose to decline the extension.
“We knew that there was a risk that other larger confederations would pull him in,” he says Simon Dahlgeneral secretary of the Swedish Volleyball Association, to the association’s website.
“The association has worked to extend Giulio’s contract, but he has unfortunately chosen to decline. We thank him for the contribution he made to the team in 2024 and wish him the best of luck.”
The WC will be decided in August next year.
