According to IS, Filppula has signed a contract with the Helsinki club and will represent Jokeri in Mestis in the starting season. According to the information, another role in the club has also been planned for Filppula after his playing career.
The 40-year-old Filppula last played in Finland during the 2012-13 NHL lockout. Playing as an attacker, Filppula scored 15 power points in 16 matches at that time.
Before this, Filppula represented the Jokers in 2000–2005 before moving behind the ice to the NHL.
Filppula is the only Finn to belong to the three-gold club. He is a world hockey champion (2022), an Olympic gold medalist (2022) and a Stanley Cup winner (Detroit Red Wings 2008).
In the NHL, Filppula has played in 1056 games and scored 530 power points (197+333).
Last season, the experienced forward celebrated the CHL championship with Geneve-Servette in Switzerland, and the season before this he was celebrating the Swiss championship with the team.
