“Further construction has been carried out on the 16th century ruin. So there are medieval and 19th century parts,” explains curator Katrien Timmers. “But it’s not made of cardboard or Lego, that’s fake.” That the answer to the question “real or fake?” is not always black and white, as is evident from Timmers’ explanation about the silverware in the display cabinet. “It is real silverware with very beautiful medieval imagery.” But it comes from the 19th century. So it is real silver cutlery, but not really medieval.
