Is this Maserati the worlds most exclusive fire truck

The car is a Maserati Quattroporte series 2 that was converted into a fire engine for the 1967 edition of the Italian Grand Prix, which was then just as now part of the Formula 1 championship.

On February 2, it will be auctioned off by Artcurial.

Three affordable alternatives to a Ferrari

An expensive advertising pillar

The slightly crazy idea to build a fire truck out of one of the most exclusive luxury sedans of the time came from the Italian fire extinguisher manufacturer CEA, who hired the Grazia coachbuilder to do the job.

Grazia started by removing the roof behind the B-pillar and turning the car into a two-door pickup.

A pump, a water reservoir and a fire extinguisher were installed in the place where the back seat had previously been. On top of this a large water cannon was mounted.

At the rear, a short flat was left as a platform for the person who steered the water cannon.

An exotic powertrain

Otherwise, however, the car is a completely ordinary Maserati Quattroporte Serie 2, which means that it nestles a 4.7-liter V8 with 260 horsepower under the long hood.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a manual gearbox.

One of five fire trucks

The car is one of five Maserati Quattroportes that CEA had converted into fire trucks, all of which were resold after their Formula 1 service.

The current copy has recently received a professional restoration and all original documents are preserved.

Exteriorly, the car is painted in the same manner as when it was in active Grand Prix service, with the original interior in black leather.

The unusual and rich car is expected to go for between 150,000 and 250,000 euros, corresponding to between 1.7 and 2.8 million kroner.
