The result: fewer people in the store. “We can still pay for everything now, but this should not take too long,” says Hageman. The crix de coeur of the supermarket owner does not leave the Vreelanders unmoved. He gets support on Facebook and one appeared column in the local newspaper in which Bas Schuurmans gives a passionate argument for the preservation of the small super. “If this were no longer there, the village would lose its heart a bit,” says Schuurmans. He therefore calls on all Vreelanders to get their groceries from the Aloys. “If everyone spends 15 euros a week, the store will run great.”
Is there still a future for the small supermarket? “I think it’s worth fighting for”
