Is the Harry Potter spin-off dead? Eddie Redmayne gives little hope for Fantastic Beasts 4

Is the Harry Potter spin off dead Eddie Redmayne gives little

Almost half a year has passed since the theatrical release of Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore. However, it is not clear when and how the Harry Potter offshoot will continue. Originally made five films announced around the magizoologist Newt Scamander. So far only three of them have been published.

Disappointing cinema numbers and various controversies surrounding those involved in the series have the promising expansion of the Wizarding World properly messed up. None of the upcoming sequels have been officially canceled. However, there is no concrete update as to whether these are really still to come.

Harry Potter franchise in a bind: Even Eddie Redmayne doesn’t know if the spin-off will go ahead

IndieWire therefore asked lead actor Eddie Redmayne how the next parts are doing. His answer sounds anything but confident. Will we ever see Fantastic Beasts 4 and Fantastic Beasts 5?

I can’t comment on that. It’s more of a question that [Autorin] JK Rowling, director [David Yates] and [das Studio] Warner Bros. concerns. I don’t know anything I’m afraid. I can’t help much there. But I love playing Newt. He is a loving person.

The only positive thing about this statement is that Redmayne apparently still want to, bringing Newt Scamander to life. Unlike other movie stars, he’s not fed up with his involvement in a major franchise. Otherwise, his statement gives little hope that the animal series will continue soon.

In April, Variety wrote in a report that the sequel to Fantastic Beings depends on the success of the third part is. The box office result looks very sobering. Secrets of Dumbledore only grossed $405 million on a $200 million budget (excluding marketing costs).

For comparison: the first part comes to 814 million US dollars and the second to 655 million US dollars. Even if we consider that Secrets of Dumbledore came to the cinemas during the Corona pandemic, the downward trend cannot be ignored. In order to make the spin-off really profitable again, Warner has to change a few things.

There is currently no cinema release for Fantastic Beasts 4 and 5.
