Viewers can discover the film “The Odyssey of Pi” this Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 9:10 p.m. on Arte. Ang Lee’s feature film follows the shipwreck of a young man in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in the company of a Bengal tiger. This badly associated duo will then try to survive during an unprecedented journey.

Life of Pi is not the cinematographic transcription of a true story: Piscine Molitor Patel did not exist, and we have not heard of a tribute having been shipwrecked with a tiger on the Pacific Ocean. This is the adaptation of the fantastic novel by Yann Martel, which is a fiction. Nevertheless, director Ang Lee spoke with another writer, Steve Callahan, himself a survivor of a 76-day shipwreck in the Atlantic Ocean. He also participated in the writing of the film to make it more authentic.

Synopsis – Piscine Molitor Patel, nicknamed Pi (Suraj Sharma) is the son of the director (Adil Hussain) of a zoological park in India, in Pondicherry. Unable to continue caring for their many boarders, Pi’s parents decide to move to Canada to sell their animals. The crossing of the Pacific Ocean goes wrong and Pi finds himself shipwrecked in the company of a Bengal tiger. Then begins an extraordinary journey for the young man where he will try to survive despite everything. Pi’s story leads us to discover him older (Irrfan Khan) in order to hear a second version of the story.
