Is The Blacklist season 11 coming? James Spader makes it clear once and for all what he thinks

Is The Blacklist season 11 coming James Spader makes it

James Spader, as the criminal genius Raymond Reddington in The Blacklist, made crime fans happy for a decade. But he knows when it’s over.

In July, the 10th season of The Blacklist ended in the USA, in Germany you can already stream it in German on Amazon * and Netflix. Is season 11 of The Blacklist possible?

There won’t be an 11th season of The Blacklist – and James Spader knows exactly why

After a decade is officially over with Red and the task force. Earlier this year, it was announced that The Blacklist ended with Season 10. And anyone who has seen the end of the series will not doubt it for a second.

In an interview with NBC , The Blacklist’s parent network, James Spader opens up about his long-running series. He first highlights what he particularly liked:

What was really great about the series was that we never had clear guidelines for that. The series makes big tonal leaps from episode to episode.

However, the tonal jump from Season 10 to Season 11 would be overkill:

Even I find that the series strange twists and I suspect that if the series continued, it would become something that I would could recognize less and less.

James Spader tries to paraphrase it diplomatically, but the message is clear: An 11th season of The Blacklist doesn’t make sense. It would be too different from the previous series – and there are clear reasons for that.

Warning, spoilers for the finale of The Blacklist!

The main character, Elizabeth Keen, died in Season 8. In the very last episode we say goodbye to Raymond Reddington who is killed by a bull. The series already felt different without Liz, but it would be without Reddington barely recognizable as The Blacklist.

Also, in Season 10, Red and the Taskforce all 200 slots of the eponymous blacklist filled – with Reddington at number 0. The Blacklist can take a well deserved retirement after 218 episodes in 10 years.

Podcast tip: Why The Blacklist is so popular

The Blacklist is a phenomenon. Amidst the prestige series Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, the crime series kicks off on September 23, 2013 with a compelling prelude. That was the beginning of an impressive success story.

My colleague Jenny Jecke and I ask ourselves two questions in the podcast that have been on our mind for a long time: Why is The Blacklist so popular? And is a satisfying ending even possible after Season 8’s twist?
