The dark Superman version Homelander (played by Antony Starr with disturbing intensity) has been considered untouchable since the first episode The Boys. The only thing that keeps him in check is his need to be loved by people. The evil Supe breaks this bondage in Season 3. But he gets an opponent: The no less powerful Homelander predecessor Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). From these power shifts, the authors around Eric Kripke develop the most exciting plot of the series to date.
The Herogasm, on the other hand, the supposedly biggest event of the season, surprisingly played almost no role. Instead, The Boys focused on precise character work and a classic serial narrative where every character matters. The series balances all of this with its very own cynical tone.
