All eight episodes of The Acolyte have been available on Disney+ since July 17, 2024, but a series finale looks different. The new Star Wars series not only leaves numerous questions unanswered at the end, but also sets up a much-needed sequel with two surprising cameos. But will there even be a second season? Showrunner Leslye Headland definitely already has a plan for what happens next. Warning, spoilers.
Will there be a second season of The Acolyte?
After the completion of the first season, it is clear that The Acolyte is not a miniseries, but a long-term narrative that can extend over several seasons. At the moment, however, Disney+ has not yet officially extended.

Will we see Osha again in a second season of The Acolyte?
In an interview with Nerdist, The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland reveals that there are talks with Disney about a second season, but that no decision has been made yet. She also cannot yet estimate when a decision will be made about the future of the series.
When could The Acolyte season 2 start on Disney+?
It may take some time before a verdict is made on The Acolyte Season 2. With Ahsoka, for example, Disney and Lucasfilm took three months to confirm the development of a sequel. Even if the series is renewed quickly, fans should not expect a timely continuation.
The production of Star Wars series is very time-consuming. Comparable blockbuster series usually take almost two years before a sequel appears. In the case of Andor, there will even be almost three years between the two seasons. With the start of a second season of The Acolyte, we should therefore not before 2026 calculate.
“A bittersweet tragedy”: The Acolyte Season 2 has no happy ending for the Sith
At the end of the first season, the story of the tragic past of Osha and Mae (Amandla Stenberg) and the events on Brendok was concluded. The series of murders was attributed to the dead Sol, Mae was arrested by the Jedi with her memories erased and Osha joins the stranger aka Qimir (Manny Jacinto) as a student of the dark side of the force.

There is already a lot of chemistry between Osha and her new master. Will they become some kind of Sith power couple in season 2? Fans should rather look forward to a tragic turn her story. In an interview with Indiewire, Leslye Headland reveals:
Even if [Osha und der Fremde] standing there looking into the sunset, ready to conquer the world, the tragedy is that we know that won’t happen. We know that there are only two [Sith] We know Plagueis is there. We know these two are doomed in some way. So for me it is a bittersweet tragedy, this foreboding ending.
We are, of course, talking about the Rule of Two. In Star Wars lore, the secret Sith Order established a rule after its apparent destruction that at any given time only two Sith There must be one master and one student.
The Acolyte Season 2: Darth Plagueis and other unanswered questions
The appearance of Darth Plagueis heralds a terrible fate for Osha and the stranger. Star Wars history tells us that Plagueis will later become a Force user named Sheev appoints Palpatine as his apprentice – and intrigues and treacherous murders are not uncommon among the Sith. Plagueis himself killed his master Darth Tenebrous in order to take his place as master.

Even though we don’t yet know if there will be a second season, The Acolyte hasn’t yet told us enough about the exciting story of the Sith, who were able to keep their existence secret from the Jedi until the events of the prequel trilogy. And if not in series form, this chapter of Star Wars history could at least be continued in book form.
