A man grapples with a pesky bee for over 90 minutes using hammers, toilet plungers and flamethrowers. This is the series Man vs. Bee, which has become a solid hit according to the Netflix top ten over the weekend. At least she offers after four years the big return by comedy legend Rowan Atkinson. And possibly the best bee humor since Nicolas Cage in The Wicker Man. But is all the fun worth it?

The nine-part series scored a solid 6.3 points on Moviepilot. This reflects the mostly positive response from critics. The Guardian gives it 4 stars out of 5 and describes Man vs. Bee as “comic peak performance“Atkinsons.”Atkinson is [hier] much more engaging than [in seiner Paraderolle] Mr Bean“, so does The Independent’s steep thesis.

However, some critics also find weaknesses. The series is “too long“, writes about RadioTimes . And also Atkinson’s large oeuvre is not necessarily an advantage. “Fun enough, but pales in comparison to Blackadder or Mr. Bean“explains The Telegraph.
Good entertainment, but not a milestone. This attitude is also illustrated by the Metacritic rating of 69 points. The series should please fans of Rowan Atkinson who appreciate the originality of Man vs. Bee.
