43 million books, that is of course a lot. Yet it is only 0.1 percent higher than last year. This growth is entirely due to foreign-language books, especially English. Dutch-language books of all genres were sold less often.
To match the best year ever, some work still needs to be done. In 2008, more than 50 million books were sold, about 7 million more than now.
