With Moonfall, Roland Emmerich created an apocalyptic sci-fi spectacle that shows us the moon with completely new eyes. At a frenzied speed, the celestial body moves towards the earth and threatens to kick out of the orbit. But then the film comes up with several twists. The last turn in the final ensures a question: How does the story go on?

Moonfall at Netflix: The end and all twists explained
In the beginning it is only one theory, later reality: the moon is not a naturally created heavenly body. Instead, we are dealing with a mega structure that has very consciously targeted the earth. What follows is not an alien invasion à la Independence Day. Rather, the moon turns out to be an ark that Built by the ancestors of the people became.
This twist should probably only have predicted very few viewers. The ancestors of the people actually come from another planet that was destroyed by an artificial intelligence that they created themselves. As a result, several of these moon arms were constructed to save the DNA of the species. But only one survived. And now it knocks on the door of the earth – a little rough.
At the end of Moonfall, KC Houseman (John Bradley) sacrifices himself to destroy the evil AI using an EMP bomb. The last turn of the film reveals that the moon or ark previously scanned the awareness of the unlikely hero, so that it can return as a hologram after the explosive finale. “You are now part of the moon”
– KC is greeted by an operating system in the form of his mother.
So the chances of Moonfall 2 are at Netflix
In the last few minutes, a sentence follows with a spirit of optimism: “We should start”it is said that the film says goodbye to the credits. But what exactly? After 130 minutes of exciting sci-fi action, MOUNFALL has a teaser for a possible sequel. Will we ever see part 2 of the blockbuster? Unfortunately, the chances are not good at all. Because Moonfall was a financial disaster.
When the film came to the cinema three years ago, he was able to record just $ 67 million. At first glance, that sounds a lot of money. With a budget of 150 million, however, the flop quickly becomes apparent. Although Emmerich had previously landed several box office hits, this blockbuster went down at the box office and turned into his loss-making business. So Moonfall 2 is basically dead.
The only glimmer of hope that remains fans is the increasing popularity in the home cinema. The recent publication at Netflix has shown that the film has the potential to inspire masses. Moonfall climbed directly to first place on the streaming charts at Netflix and even displaced the new sci-fi blockbuster The Electric State. Part 2 should not count for the time being.
