After eight years of waiting, Disney fans can finally look forward to the arrival of Moana 2 on the world’s big screens. The fantasy adventure tells us the dangerous journey of the Polynesian wayfinder, who must break an ancient curse to reunite the tribes of the oceanic islands.
Even if she succeeds in the end, her adventure doesn’t seem to be over yet, as the post-credit scene of Moana 2 suggests to us. But there will be one third Moana part give? Fans can at least now look forward to another film.
Moana 3 is teased in the post-credit scene of Moana 2 – and a star would be on board
The post-credit scene of Moana 2 suggests a retaliatory strike by Nalo and Tamatao against the newly minted demigod and her friends. The film thus lays the foundation for another story that could await us in the cinema as Moana 3. A third part of the fantasy adventure has not yet been officially confirmed. However, some of those involved are already holding out hope for a sequel.
As Auli’i Cravalho, who lends her voice to Moana in the English original, revealed in an interview with CinemaBlend, she would be enthusiastic about continuing on the path with the young demigod:
I love this character so much. I’ve had it in my bones all these years. I hope I have to her never turn your back.
Cravalho is also convinced that Moana 2 laid the foundation for further stories:
[Der Film] opens up a whole new world. That’s all I can say.
Dana Ledoux Miller, who served as one of the writers and directors of Moana 2, explained that Moana’s actions in the fantasy adventure have major consequences:
I think Moana comes to a point in the film where she has to make some pretty difficult decisions for the future of her people, and there are consequences for these actions.
Does she also mean the consequences that the young wayfinder could face in a possible third part? Whether Moana 3 actually comes will probably depend heavily on how the film turns out at the box office beats. However, after a great presale and launch, fans don’t have to worry too much here. According to Variety, the film was able to do so in the USA $57.5 million on its first day play in.
The live-action Moana film with Dwayne Johnson has already been filmed
A Moana film is already in the works. A live-action remake of the first big fantasy adventure has already been filmed and has already had an official theatrical release. In it, Dwayne Johnson will not only lend his voice to Maui, but will also embody it completely.
The first set photos recently showed the actor as a fully tattooed and long-haired demigod. Newcomer Catherine Laga’aia will star as Moana, as Auli’i Cravalho says she is now too old for the role. Musical luminary Thomas Kail (Hamilton) takes a seat in the director’s chair.
The live-action adaptation of Moana awaits us on July 9, 2026 in German cinemas. Information about a third Moana animated film will definitely follow in the near future.
