Just ask Christian “Fimpen” Eklund…
Now the profile reveals the very worst sawing he received.
Christian “Fimpen” Eklund was my rock-hard and sacrificial playing style, and his great work ethic, a real audience favorite in Djurgården. Eklund may not have been the most skilled player on the ice all the time, but he really knew how to get his opponents off balance, and he was never afraid to take a duel on the ice.
Wonderful sawing
Eklund did not win any points leagues, but was still loved by Djurgårds fans, and even today he is considered a real icon within the club and its supporters. But it was not only opponents who had problems with Fimpen, but also his own coach was able to raise his voice properly.
Fimpen had some really high-profile names as a coach in Djurgården, such as Hardy Nilsson, Niklas Wikegård and Lasse Falk. All of them were known for being able to give their players real punches, and in the podcast Släpp Sargen, Fimpen can only laugh when Hardy’s name comes up.
– Hardy liked to saw and he sawed me quite often. But he was good at a lot, and he and I liked each other damn much outside. As a hockey player, I may not have been the favorite, he says.
“Like a dead plank”
Fimpen heard a lot, but he still remembers a crazy sawing from Hardy today.
– He had some wonderful sawings, the one I remember best is probably: “You hide like submarines out there, but not you, Fimpen. You lie and float like a dead fucking plank “, he says.
However, Eklund did not take it very badly, and today he just laughs at it all. And he has also started to think about what was really meant…
– I never understood if it was good or bad, but I think it was bad? I thought it was a sawing, but now in recent years I have started to turn around, and thought: “Damn, maybe it was something good”. I do not want to ask Hardy about it, because then maybe I will find out that it was a sawing, he says.
