The World Floorball Championships will return to Singapore after an 18-year hiatus, when the fate of the women’s World Cup medals will be decided in Southeast Asia from Saturday. In 2005, Finland reached the final in Singapore, but Switzerland was better 4–3.

Since then, Sweden has taken eight golds in a row, although Finland has often come close. In 2015 and 2017, Sweden was better in the final penalty shootout, and most recently in 2021 in Uppsala Emelie Wibron decided the championship in overtime.

Finland’s previous and at the same time only World Cup golds are from 1999 and 2001.

in the Finnish team has familiar experience and quality Veera and Oona Kaupin in the lead, but also interesting first-timers, such as the 18-year-old who leads the F-League points market by far Miisa Turunen. The head coach Lasse Kurronen has led the group for eight years and is stepping aside after Singapore.

Finland’s preparation for the tournament has gone well, and at the EFT tournament in Turku in October, the blue and whites won three against their main opponents Sweden, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Finland also managed to defeat Sweden in the Czech tournament at the beginning of September.

Oona Kauppi, who plays in Sweden’s top team, Team Thorengruppen, visited Radio Suomen Urheiluilla during the games to tell her own and the team’s news (the interview starts at 1.17.00).

Arriving on the spot last Sunday and on wednesday sports exercises pulled Finland plays in Group A with Switzerland, Latvia and Norway. The top two secure their place directly in the quarterfinals.

The tournament begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. Finnish time with a match against Latvia. Explains Finland’s matches Matti Härkönenand works as an expert Toni Lötjönen.
